WE, the leadership of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), founded and working in the Republic of Kenya; and, inclusive of social movements, NGOs, organizations by, of and for the children,youth, women, persons with disability, working persons through their trade Congress, the ethno-regionally marginalized, pastoralists, agricultural communities, trading and street communities, vendors, senior citizens, |

Community Based Organizations, People Groups and institutions; and, whose authority and acquiescence are self evident in the signatures and accession instruments to this Charter: |

|
GALVANIZED by the need to provide a solidarity platform for all Civil Society actors to be secure, interact, harmonize and synchronize their interventions on key national, regional and international issues; |
|
|
|
DETERMINED to confront and interrogate the multifaceted challenges that have continued to inhibit robust development, operations and solidarity by and within the Civil Society sector in Kenya and the African continent; |
|
|
|
FURTHER DETERMINED to foster and strengthen sustainable solidarity within the Civil Society and enhance internal democratic practices including transparency and accountability;
|
|
|
|
CONSIDERING and being conscious of the determining and invaluable pivotal historical vanguard and watchdog role that Civil Society continue to play in transforming Kenya for the benefit and advantage of the Civic Commons; |
|
|
|
COGNISANT of the reality that the people of Kenya have always forged a popular solidarity front with Civil Society as a genuine partner in their daily struggles towards realization of their aspirations for a better and dignified life. |
|
|
|
INSPIRED by the demonstrable cumulative transformative gains so far attained by Civil Society in pro-people work, especially in the pursuit of pro-poor of the poor reform and policy agenda; and convicted of a desire to further and enhance these gains; |
|
|
|
COMMITTED to the promotion and protection of human and peoples' rights, consolidation of democratic gains, enhancement of sustainable democratic institutions and civic culture, and to ensure and nurture constitutionalism, good governance and the rule of just law; |
|
|
|
RECALLING the Civil Society Strategy Meeting on the Political Transition in Kenya held at the Sportsman Arms Hotel, Nanyuki, Kenya, from 22:01:2003 to 24:01: 2003, and whose report and Executive Outcomes informed publication of ‘The ThirdRepublic’. |
|
|
|
REAFFIRMING our steadfast commitment and faith in Resolution 3.3, which we adopted at the Fourth Civil Society Forum (CSF) Strategy Re-thinking Workshop at the Lake Naivasha Simba Lodge, on Sunday 21: 05: 2006, and at which we mutually resolved to establish the National Civil Society Congress (NCSC) in the Republic of Kenya. |
